What the work involves
Drywall, explained
Drywall is the surface everything else sits on. A bad tape joint or a lumpy patch shows through every coat of paint, especially on walls that get raking light from a window. Good drywall work is judged by what you cannot see.
We hang and finish new drywall for additions, basements and partition walls, and we do a great deal of repair work — water-damaged ceilings, cracked plaster, holes from plumbing and electrical access, popped screws, corner bead damage and failed prior patches.
What's included
- Dust containment, floor protection and negative air where practical
- Removal of damaged board, wet insulation and failed patches
- Framing and blocking repair so new board has something solid to land on
- Hanging 1/2", 5/8" fire-rated and moisture-resistant board as required
- Taping, three-coat finishing and corner bead installation
- Skim coating for walls with heavy texture or old plaster damage
- Sanding to a smooth, paint-ready Level 4 or 5 finish
- Priming of repairs and optional finish painting
No cost, no obligation

How the job runs
- 1
Diagnose the cause
For water damage, we find and confirm the source is fixed first. Patching a ceiling under an active leak wastes your money — we will say so.
- 2
Contain & cut out
Plastic goes up, floors are covered, and damaged material is cut back to solid framing in clean, square sections.
- 3
Hang & tape
New board is screwed to framing with joints staggered, then taped and coated. Each coat is allowed to dry before the next — rushing this is why patches crack later.
- 4
Sand & blend
Joints are feathered wide and sanded smooth, with texture matched where an existing wall or ceiling has one.
- 5
Prime & paint
Repairs get primed so the patch does not flash through the finish coat. We can repaint the full wall or ceiling for a seamless result.
What to expect as a homeowner
- Small patches are often a one-day job; a taped and finished room typically takes 3–4 days because of drying time between coats.
- Sanding generates fine dust — we contain it, but expect to keep the work area sealed off while it happens.
- Patched areas should be primed and ideally painted wall-to-wall or corner-to-corner; spot-painting a patch almost always shows.
- Older homes often have plaster over lath, not drywall. We can repair plaster or convert a wall to drywall — we will explain the difference in cost and result.
